Fiji Dies at 55 - Reggae Legend George Veikoso Passes Away in Fiji

Today, we remember a true Pacific music legend.

George “Fiji” Veikoso, the award-winning Fijian-Hawaiian reggae icon, has sadly passed away at the age of 55. He died on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025, in Fiji, surrounded by his family.

Fiji was more than just a musician. Born in Tailevu, Fiji, and moving to Hawaii in 1987, he fused island roots with modern reggae and R&B. His breakout came with albums like Evolution and Born & Raised, quickly making him a household name across the Pacific.

Over the years, Fiji collected numerous honors, including Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award, and even a Grammy nomination. By 2023, his music had racked up more than 500 million streams.

Beyond his music, Fiji mentored many upcoming artists and was deeply loved by fans for his voice, warmth, and cultural pride. His impact on Polynesian and Hawaiian music is unmatched—and his legacy will live on through generations.

🕊️ Rest in peace, Fiji. You’ll forever be remembered as the voice of the islands.
